Weekend With Roger Morrision & Nancy Herrick

On October 26-29th I attended the seminar with Nancy Herrick and Roger Morrison in New York. It was my 3rd seminar out of 4 that they organized in Manhattan. In previous seminars they explored miasms and kingdoms. Their approach to teaching is very systematic and practical. I had a clear understanding of miasms after the first seminar. The second one gave me good understanding of kingdoms.

This seminar was focused on “putting it all together”. Roger Morrison and Nancy Herrick presented cases, and step by step analysis – how to get the sensation, the miasm, the kingdom, subkingdom and subsequently the remedy.

What to do when patient stays at the level of emotions? Emotions are not helpful in finding the remedy using sensational method. I usually try to avoid going with patient to emotional experiences. Roger and Nancy gave practical hints how to help patient express his sensations when he started talking about emotions.

Roger Morrison said that in majority of his cases patients do not name “the source”. In my experience this is true. While I have some fascinating cases when patients name the source, for the most part they don’t. But patients give clues about the nature of the source. Roger and Nancy taught systematic approach to looking for these clues. As a part of this approach they showed how to identify the animal remedy on the basis of kingdom and miasm.

Nancy did a lot of animal provings. I bought her book “Animal Mind, Human Voices”. They presented cases of different mammals and explained how to differentiate between them on the basis of miasm and characteristic traits of the species. They presented cases of Lac lupinum and Lac equinum, and discussed differences between these remedies and other mammalian remedies, such as Lac delphinium, Lac loxodonta, Lac leoninum.

The case I liked the most was the case of a child with rheumatoid arthritis. Some practitioners find kids cases easy. I don’t. It is not easy to get information for solid prescribing. Nancy showed how she gets this information by observing the child. History of adoption in family, sadness, bossy, desire for salads – Mag-sulph. Nice classic case taking.

The conference was well organized. Thanks to Kathy Lukas. The auditorium was full, but for this World class level of teaching the number of attendees could be higher. The number of physicians was unusually high but still below my expectation. Next seminar is in Spring of 2008, if I am not mistaken. I rate this seminar “Five Stars”.

Five Days With Dr. Jayesh Shah In Rhode Island

Jayesh is an exceptional teacher from the Bombay Group of Homeopaths.
He started the seminar by acknowledging that not all his cases go to the level of sensation and energy pattern. The rest of the seminar was about how to get to the essence of the case; how to improve our perception of what is the patient’s “experience of reality”.

Jayesh went over things that were known to me but worth repeating, like “remove your mind from the case” (Homeopaths are probably the only health professionals who insist on removing the mind from the process); create time and space for the person to heal. Jayesh was very practical about it and showed some meditation techniques that he found helpful. I was glad to see that I am on the right track with my Vipassana meditation. I also appreciated some “tricks of the trade” in case taking. They were simple and to the point. I tried them already in my office after the conference.

I was very interested in Jayesh’s idea of taking patient to the after-life experience in a quest for a remedy. He presented a case and described the process. It was especially interesting for me because two years ago I had a case where the remedy revealed itself to me when the patient described her near-death experience. I think that near-death and after-life experiences are very powerful. They affect human life profoundly. It is an “opening” to deep memories and non-human experiences that we as homeopaths are interested in.

The seminar was held at the beautiful barn converted to the conference room. Thanks to Spero who invited Jayesh, and to Pam who found great chef to cook for us. The weather was warm. It was pleasure to meet old friends homeopaths, walk at the beach and swim in the warm ocean.

Dr. Rajan Sankaran’s seminar in Vancouver

I was at Dr. Rajan Sankaran’s seminar in Vancouver June 13-18. Working in his method changed not only my case taking, but also my understanding of “reality”.

Much of this seminar was about refining the technique of case taking. Dr. Sankaran discussed different ways how to find the entrance to subconscious level. When it is appropriate to ask “Why?” and “What?” questions, and when is the right time to inquire about hand gesture. He went over the most common sources of errors, and explained how to avoid failures. He presented invaluable information with his superb sense of humor.

These issues Dr. Sankaran discussed in his new book “Sensation Refined”. Most of the cases that he had shown during seminar were from the book.

At the end Dr. Sankaran presented his understanding of minerals in the 3rd row. It was clear, to the point with beautiful examples. He also asked Laurie Dack to present her case of Argon which was elegant and clear. Roger Morrison gave his impression of Argon based on his experience with this remedy.

At the third day of the seminar Murray Feldman summarized his impression of Dr. Sankaran’s work. The key words of his speech were “Progress”, “Evolution” and “Refinement”. He specifically pointed how much clearer everything is now.

I agree with Murray – things got much clearer. My experience of the seminar was “Clear and Powerful”. My friends I bet would like to ask “Tell me more about Clear and Powerful”.

Greg, Heather and Kim did a great job organizing the event.

And by the way, I brought a good weather from New York, and I kept it sunny meditating every morning.

Bombay School

I recently attended a homeopathic seminar, taught in the Bombay School style. From May 30-June 3rd, I was in Brattelboro, VT to see, once again, the distinguished Homeopaths, Dr. Shachindra Joshi and Dr. Bhawisha Joshi. With over a decade of medical experience, the two have played an integral role in the internationally acclaimed Bombay school of Homeopathy.
This time they presented their understanding of Imponderables and Nosodes. They also brought examples from the mineral kingdom, to explain the differences between cases that need single elements and the ones that need salt remedies .
They explained the polarity of Nosodes and Imponderables and pointed out that they have their own set of polarities, just as plants, minerals and animals do, as well as their own sets of sensations.
Dr.s Joshi and Bhawisha are very powerful and passionate speakers. It was truly overwhelming to watch them present the Nosodes and Imponderables cases. They explain every intricate step in minute detail, to help bring all the pieces together, with the sole purpose of narrowing it down to the exact mechanism and then match it up with the exact source in nature. The technical part of the presentation was perfect with illustrative video-cases and fascinating power-points.
For me, the culmination of the seminar was live case-taking, which Joshi’s did to illustrate the method. It was an invaluable experience to watch Masters taking the case. At the end of the day, we all went to the hotel to analyze a case. Everyone assumes that 50 homeopaths looking at one case will come up with 50 different remedies, so the most interesting thing for me was that we all came up with the same three or four remedies. It shows me the consistency of the method.
The conference was organized and hosted by Spero Latches. Organization of the conference was great as usual and I will definitely attend the next one.On Saturday June 2 there was a Agricultural Feast in Brattelboro, in which one hundred cows marched through the town. There were 50,000 people participating in the festivities.
